What if a small urban municipality could be used as an innovation platform?
Bringing together interdisciplinary researchers and partner organizations, Transportation Futures is a research network based at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. The goal of the Transportation Futures Network is to advance the field of transportation and mobility towards a more sustainable, efficient, and equitable future. The network conducts research on a wide range of transportation-related topics, including urban planning, transportation policy, sustainable transportation systems, and new mobility technologies.

About Transportation Futures
The Transportation Futures Network engages with local and regional governments, private sector organizations, and community groups to inform policy and planning decisions and promote the implementation of sustainable transportation solutions. Overall, the goal of the Transportation Futures Network is to create a more livable, sustainable, and connected future for all.

Focus
We have over a decade of experience working with industry, government and other institutions. Our researchers work closely with campus operations to discover and implement new solutions that will reduce the university’s carbon footprint. Transportation Futures has recently received $11.6M to further expand the campus as a city-scale test bed for transportation energy systems.

Impact
Air pollution costs Canadian families an estimated $36 billions in 2015 due to premature death and illness. The good news is that the energy system is decarbonizing. These emerging trends have direct implications for geopolitical stability, human health and economic sustainability.
We are using an integrative and multi-pathway approach to resolve the challenges associated with the pollution of the transportation sector.
